Polls for state primary elections are open today from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Erie County and from noon to 9 p.m. in Niagara County.
The primary features races for State Senate and Assembly seats, with several races including minor lines such as the Independence and Working Families parties.
Though voter turnout for primary elections is typically much lower than in the Nov. 6 general election, several contests have been marked by bitter battles among candidates.
The 60th State Senate District, for example, has seen fierce fighting on both sides of the aisle. In the three-way race for the 149th Assembly seat, whoever wins the Democratic line will almost certainly win the general election battle in the district, which is overwhelmingly Democrat.
