A 79-year-old Depew man was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle Wednesday by Buffalo Police accident investigators after he allegedly took a golf cart belonging to the National Guard at the Navy Week opening festivities at Canalside and struck a woman, Buffalo Police reported.
The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m., just after the opening Navy Week ceremony had ended. . The suspect took off with the golf cart and hit a 41-year-old female pedestrian who was briefly pinned beneath the vehicle.
Several Navy personnel rushed over and pushed the golf cart onto its side to help extricate the woman. Navy and local officials then assisted the woman at the scene until an ambulance arrived.
The woman was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the man who took the cart and the woman who was injured were not released.
