NIAGARA FALLS - A city woman will face felony charges for allegedly driving while under the influence of a narcotic while she had her young son in the car.
Sarah M. Attfield, 25, of Willow Avenue was stopped by police just after 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of Pine Avenue and appeared to be intoxicated, according to police, who said she admitted that she had taken the narcotic painkiller hydrocodone.
Under Leandra's Law, Attfield was charged with felony aggravated DWI for having a child in the car, as well as operating a motor vehicle under the influence, driving with no seat belt, operating a vehicle without a license and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said that although Attfield was not wearing a seat belt, her young son was found in a proper child safety restraint in the rear seat of the vehicle.
The boy was turned over to a family friend and Child Protective Services was notified, police said.
