LOCKPORT - A Jamaican national, who pleaded guilty after accepting a 14-pound Federal Express marijuana shipment to Lockport last year, could be deported at any moment, his attorney said at sentencing Monday.
Ian A. Bell, 43, of 15th Street, Buffalo, is to be kicked out of the country in the wake of his felony conviction to third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, Assistant Public Defender Matthew P. Pynn said in Niagara County Court, where Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas placed Bell on five years' probation.
The shipment from California was detected by drug-sniffing dogs at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, and police were waiting near Bell's then home on Pound Street in Lockport March 4, 2011. He was arrested after signing for the box. Police also seized $1,170 in cash.
