LEWISTON - Traffic along the Robert Moses Parkway at the New York Power Authority's Niagara Power Project will be detoured onto Lewiston Road (Route 104), beginning next Tuesday because of a road reconstruction project that is expected to be finished by mid-November.
The Power Authority said Monday that northbound traffic on the parkway will be directed to Lewiston Road at Devil's Hole State Park, with the option of re-entering the parkway at the Lewiston access ramp. Southbound traffic will detour onto Lewiston Road at the Lewiston Road/I-190 exit and will re-enter the parkway at the parking area for Devil's Hole State Park.
The work is the final phase of a multimillion-dollar project recommended in 2008 to prevent deterioration of substructures beneath the Robert Moses Parkway and Lewiston Road/Route 104, where those highways cross the Power Project's Robert Moses Niagara Plant. The first phase, on the southbound section of the parkway, is finished but remains closed because of other refurbishing work on the road and at the power plant.
