Additional human remains found Sunday morning in Hyde Park have been identified as being from homicide victim Loretta Jo Gates, Niagara Falls Police said.
The unspecified remains were found in a section of the city park known as Duck Island.
A park goer noticed a bag floating in the park's lake and pulled the bag to shore, making the grisly discovery shortly before noon.
Gates, 30, of Niagara Falls, was last seen alive in the early morning of Aug. 26. Three days later, a tourist near the Maid of the Mist landing on the Canadian side of the falls spotted a human torso in the river basin and alerted authorities. Niagara Parks Police recovered the torso, which remained unidentified until Gates' mother reported her daughter missing to Niagara Falls Police.
DNA testing by the Erie County Central Police Services Forensic Laboratory confirmed on Friday that the torso was from Gates, whose death has been classified as a homicide.
Niagara Falls Police are investigating the case along with state police. Anyone with information is asked to call Falls Police at 286-4553 or 286-4711.
