Two groups are setting up for an annual beach cleaning effort on Saturday.
Sharen Trembath coordinates the 27th annual Great Lakes Beach Sweep from 10 a.m. to noon as part of the International Coastal Cleanup program.

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper seeks assistants for its Fall Shoreline Sweep at more than 25 parks and green spaces along the Buffalo-Niagara shoreline. Cleanup goes from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Volunteers are asked to sign up by Monday.

Tifft photo contest

Friends of Tifft Nature Preserve offers amateur photographers ages 16 and older an opportunity to enter its "2012 Photo Contest."
Shots must be taken at the preserve at 1200 Fuhrmann Blvd. during September. Registration is required by Sept. 16. For entry details, call 825-6307 or go to sciencebuff.org/friends_of_tifft.php.

Fall River Academy

Fall 2012 sessions of Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper's popular River Academy begin Saturday. Students interested in watershed studies can register for general studies or Erie Community College academic course credit.

Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve's Fall Festival this year highlights water themes.
