A federal grand jury has returned a seven-count indictment charging Dr. Matthew A. Bennett of Clarence with unlawfully distributing and dispensing prescription drugs.
The indictment, which is similar to the original charges against Bennett, accuses him prescribing drugs such as oxycodone and oxymorphone for reasons other than legitimate medical purposes.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch said Bennett illegally issued prescriptions to undercover police officers on seven occasions between May and July of 2012.
Bennett, 46, was arrested by federal agents during an early-morning raid on Aug. 10.
