TOWN OF LOCKPORT - A 4-year-old boy who fell from a second-floor window at his Amy Road home just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday remained in intensive care in Women & Children's Hospital today with severe head injuries.
Jaxson Schmidt, the son of Sara and David Schmidt, was crying intermittently, alert and semi-conscious while being held in his mother's arms when Niagara County sheriff's deputies arrived Wednesday afternoon.
Sara Schmidt told deputies that Jaxson and another child had been playing in the kitchen while she was at the kitchen table painting favors for a shower. She said the next thing she knew, she saw a screen from a second-floor window fall onto the back patio and then saw Jaxson fall right behind it.
Schmidt said she picked Jaxson and called 911. South Lockport volunteer firefighters responded and Mercy Flight transported the boy after he was found with head injuries, including abrasions and cuts on his face, the rear of his head, and his arms and legs.
Sheriff James R. Voutour said sheriff's investigators believe the fall was been accidental.
