Erie County Judge Thomas Franczyk on Tuesday sentenced a 44-year-old Lancaster man to six months in jail and five years probation for driving through a stop sign and striking another vehicle last March, seriously injuring the other driver.
Daryl J. Simpson, a nurse, had faced up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty in June to first-degree vehicular assault.
Simpson was driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.18 percent - more than twice the legal limit - when the crash occurred at 3:30 a.m. March 16 at Ransom Road and Broadway in Lancaster.
The other driver, on his way to work, suffered a torn trachea, a fractured sternum and a fractured pelvis, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.
