Clarence muddles through

Sloppy playing conditions due to early afternoon rains made for an ugly contest between previously unbeaten Clarence and Williamsville North in boys soccer.
But the Red Devils (3-0) managed two goals, both by Brendan Law, while Michael Biedny finished with four saves in Clarence's 2-0 victory over the Spartans in ECIC I play.
The game was scoreless before Law scored midway through the second half, then added another with 10 seconds remaining in the contest against the Spartans (2-1).
"North will be near the top of the standings at the end of the year," Clarence coach Mike Silverstein said. "Beating North is a good win for us."
In other ECIC I play, West Seneca West, which won only two games last season, recorded its third win this year. Randy Pawlik scored with 39 seconds left in regulation to give the Indians a 1-0 victory over Frontier (0-2).
Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Bartz recorded his second shutout in his third varsity start for West Seneca West, which hosts defending champ Lancaster on Friday.
In ECIC II action, Williamsville South's Myles Taylor recorded a goal and two assists, while keeper Steve Casey was credited with the shutout in the Billies' 4-0 triumph over Iroquois.
Ryan Biggane scored the winning goal on a header from Bryan Daigler with over five minutes left to lift Sweet Home to a 2-1 victory over Starpoint.
Maryvale's Mike Gandt accounted for five of the six goals scored by the Flyers (three goals and two assists) in their 6-0 shutout of Pioneer in ECIC III.
Anthony Pellicano recorded six saves and Alex Reid scored two goals in Lockport's 3-0 win against Niagara-Wheatfield in the Niagara Frontier League.

Nardin rolls

Molly Zugger, Haley Mills and Alex Juliano each scored to lead Nardin (1-2) to a 3-1 triumph over Kenmore West (0-1) in nonleague girls soccer. Also, Orchard Park defeated Grand Island, 3-1, behind a pair of goals by Elyse Rozsa.
Depew's Breanna Stapleton scored a goal and added an assist in the Wildcats' 3-1 triumph over St. Mary's/Lancaster.
In Niagara-Orleans play, Newfane downed Medina, 6-0, behind four goals and an assist by Alexis Moreland and stellar play in goal by Shannon Shaw.
Malorie Gagnon scored three goals, Angela Goodman added two and Grace Adams recorded the shutout in goal as Wilson romped over Barker, 9-0.
Lockport blanked Niagara-Wheatfield, 2-0, led by goalkeeper Bridget Masiello in Niagara-Frontier action.

Iroquois deals aces

Iroquois blanked Maryvale in straight sets, 3-0, behind Julia Winkle's six aces in nonleague girls volleyball, while Courtney Alvey's seven kills and 11 digs led Pioneer over Olean, 3-0.
