The General Pulaski Association will honor 18 "unsung heroes" in the Polish-American community during the Pulaski Parade Banquet on Saturday in Cheektowaga.
The "Unsung Heroes of Polonia" will include: Richard Augustyn, diocesan director of hospitality ministry; Robert Narkiewicz, supporter of the disabled; Betty Jane Urbanski, parishioner of the former St. Barnabas Church; Dorothy Wrazin Poole, parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church; David P. Lipinoga, president of the Angry Patriots and Pinheads; Lisa Florczak, Huminski's Angels Inc.; and Philip Smolinski, former commissioner of the Erie County Board of Elections.
Also, Dr. Kenneth D. Anthone, chairman of the Eyes on America Foundation; Theresa Gonciarz and Noreen Lewandowski, parishioners of St. Stanislaus Church; John Mills, minority leader of the Erie County Legislature; Karen Karalus Karamanoukian, advocate for veterans; Norbert C. Czosek, Knights of Columbus; and Donna Zellner Neal, of the North Tonawanda History Museum.
The following people will be honored posthumously: James Makowski, former Buffalo Streets commissioner; William S. Skretny Sr., member of Pulaski Association; Gerald Bielawski, Cheektowaga Patriotic Commission; and Jackie Schmid, executive assistant to U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins.
The event was announced by Pulaski Association President Brian D. Rusk, as well as dinner co-chairman Kenneth Graber and 2012 Pulaski Day Parade grand marshal Jola Simon.
The Pulaski Parade Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Creekside Banquet Facility, 2669 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
