July 8, 1914 - Aug. 31, 2012
Sister Patricia McDermott, a primary school teacher for many years, died Friday at the Annunciation Convent in Buffalo.
Born Patricia H. McDermott in Tonawanda, she entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1933. She was a teacher at St. Mary's Seminary, as well as the Catholic schools in Kenmore, Binghamton and Lockport.
In 1978, Sister Patricia became the food manager at Mount St. Mary Convent, preparing meals, cleaning and tending the garden.
Her love of animals is legendary. In 1994 she went to the convent in Colden, bringing with her the same gentle spirit that she had used to instruct little children to care for the squirrels, chipmunks and all other living things.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday in the St. Mary Center Chapel.
