> Beer and bacon for a cause
When cupcake entrepreneur Michael Wulf learned there was a Sept. 8 event in Williamsville dedicated to tasting beer and bacon, he was interested. When he heard it was raising money to fight breast cancer, he was in.
"The most important part is that it's benefiting cancer research," said Wulf, who opened Swirls Cupcakery (634 Main St., East Aurora, 713-7720) last year.
"Bacon has become almost as big a trend as cupcakes, so a lot of customers have been asking for something with bacon," said Wulf. "Plus, it's going to be fun – these are some of the most imaginative flavors we've had yet."
Swirls will be offering its popular chocolate stout cupcake, topped with "our maple-infused buttercream, and candied bacon that really ties everything in." There's also a Salted Caramel Bacon number.
Pitched as Western New York's first beer and bacon tasting festival, the event is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 8 in Williamsville's Island Park, (5565 Main St.). Other outfits serving food include Century Grill, Ebenezer Ale House, the Irishman Pub, Applewood Cafe and Lake Effect Ice Cream.
Tickets are $30 advance (through www.beerbaconboobs.com), or $35 at the door. That will get you 20 beer samples; food is extra.
