Tonight's the night to explore the great air-conditioned indoors. Conveniently enough, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has scheduled a cool concert featuring Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with pianist Igor Lipinski.
The twentysomething Lipinski gave a recital in the Canisius College Montante Cultural Center not long ago at which he played virtuosic piano pieces and did magic tricks. Surely he will bring out aspects of the Gershwin showpiece that have been invisible up until now.
Conducted by Associate Conductor Matthew Kraemer, the concert also features other music by Gershwin and by Richard Rodgers. Concertgoers are welcome to come early and sit by the reflecting pool and sample the wares of food trucks including Pizza Amore, R&R and Rolling Joe. A post-concert party features dancing and Gershwin-era cabaret jazz with Heather Holden and her jazz quartet.
The concert starts at 7 tonight in Kleinhans Music Hall. For info, call 885-5000.
