What's already proving to be a rich and diverse summer lineup at the Erie Canal Harbor Central Wharf hits another early high-point with Thursday's appearance by New York City power-pop legends Fountains of Wayne.

Fronted by cohorts Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger, FOW has spent a few decades perfecting the power-pop formula. The sugar-sweet chorus hooks, the sun-infused blend of acoustic and electric guitars, the Beatle-esque vocal harmonies, the guitar grit that provides the power to go along with the pop -- these guys, just like the "Stacy's Mom" who gave them their biggest commercial hit, have got it goin' on.

With last year's "Sky Full of Holes" providing the band with a fresh batch of killer new tunes to play live -- and a postive critical reception that had no less than Stephen King hailing the record as one of the year's best -- Fountains of Wayne should arrive in Buffalo all revved up to party.

Thursday's show is, as ever, free, and starts promptly at 5 p.m. The Summer People and the Albrights open.
