ESSAY CONTEST

Western New York Ending Child Abuse & Neglect and The Buffalo News are sponsoring an essay contest for students in Erie County ages 10-18. Students should submit, in 250 words or less, a "Declaration of Children's Rights."

Winners from each category (three age groups) will read their essays at an April rally and winning essays will be printed in NeXt.

Entries should be submitted no later than noon Sunday to kidsessaycontest@holycrossheadstart.org. Please include name, age, school, teacher and school telephone number.

The Lancaster-Depew Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will sponsor its TeenSpeak Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Depew Boys and Girls Club, 60 Preston St., Depew. POSTER CONTEST

Stop the Violence Coalition is sponsoring a poster contest for students in Buffalo public and charter in grades nine through 12. The poster will be used at the coalition's Banquet Journal on April 28. Posters should be based on theme: "M.E.N.T.O.R.S. ... Mentoring, Nurturing, Educating to Overcome Real-life Situations"; include the coalitions stop-sign logo;and students must include school name, grade, full name, address and telephone number on the back of the poster.
