Activities this week at the Central Library, Lafayette Square, include the Lego Club for kids ages 6 to 12 at 1 p.m. Saturday.

And, through Wednesday, readers can participate in the library's Winter Reading 2012 competition. Just read a book, write a short online review at www.buffalolib.org and you will have a chance to win prizes. There are three categories -- youth, teen and adult.

CREATE A FAIRY HOUSE

Artpark is seeking local schools, Scout groups, artists, groups and families to create fairy houses for display at its annual Fairy House Festival, June 9 and 10. The Fairy House Festival will feature a tour of fairy houses throughout the woods and gardens of the park, a book signing by children's book author Tracy Kane, art activities and other family fun. Fairy houses are small structures built from sticks, dry grasses, leaves, pinecones and other found natural materials. Building guidelines, applications and photos of fairy houses can be found at www.artpark.net. The application deadline is next Thursday, although completed houses may be submitted at a later date. ESSAY CONTEST

Western New York Ending Child Abuse & Neglect and The Buffalo News are sponsoring an essay contest for students in Erie County ages 10-18. Students should submit, in 250 words or less, a "Declaration of Children's Rights."

Winners from each category (three age groups) will read their essays at an April rally and winning essays will be printed in NeXt.

Entries should be submitted no later than noon April 1 to kidsessaycontest@holycrossheadstart.org. Please include name, age, school, teacher and school telephone number.
