The Bunny the Bear
Who?: Matthew Tybor, Chris Hutka, Jake Andrews, Cody Morse, Steve Drachenberg, Matt Drozzi.
What?: Buffalo-born heavy punk/post-hard-core outfit, known for creepy masks -- depicting a bunny and a bear, naturally -- and a decidedly contemporary blend of buzz-saw hard core with a light-shade dichotomy in the vocal department, between the sweetly melodic (the Bear, aka Hutka) and the brazenly gritty (the Bunny, aka Tybor).
Why?: On the strength of its 2010 self-titled independent release, the band was signed to renowned hard-core label Victory Records. Victory helped the band make its major-label debut, "If You Don't Have Anything Nice To Say," into an underground sensation, which led to tours with the likes of Escape the Fate, Funeral For A Friend, the Amity Affliction and Victorian Halls. With its blend of melody, musical diversity and unbridled post-hard-core savagery, The Bunny The Bear is poised to be a major heavy music presence in 2012.
What's Next?: The Bunny The Bear, with guests Come Honor, Final Conspiracy, The Silence Broke, All To End and Derf, plays a homecoming show at Mohawk Place (47 E. Mohawk St.) at 7 tonight. Tickets are $12 (www.themohawkplace.com).
