We know him as an actor and, yes, a heartthrob. Now we can add author to the resume of our very own Chad Michael Murray.

The Lockport native, best known for his long-running portrayal of Lucas Scott on the popular CW series "One Tree Hill" and the star of such movies as "A Cinderella Story" and "House of Wax," has written the graphic novel "Everlast."

The preapocalyptic tale about a man given the task of guiding people "to a place of rebirth for mankind" was inspired after a man rang Murray's doorbell preaching about the End of Days. "It's fun to use your imagination and step outside the boundaries of reality," Murray said in a recent phone conversation in which he talked about his passion for writing, the character of Derek Everlast and his acting career. (The full interview will run in Tuesday's Life & Arts section.).

Murray returns home to sign copies of "Everlast" at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Barnes & Noble, 1565 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst. Call 837-7209.
