More than 100 years ago, the famous detective Sherlock Holmes was featured for the first time in "A Study in Scarlet" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In 2009, director Guy Ritchie directed the film "Sherlock Holmes," starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as his faithful companion Watson. Now we have "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," starring the same cast along with some new faces.
The plot revolves around a new villain named Professor James Moriarty, the most famous criminal mastermind of the novels and short stories. It is a battle between intellects and it is intense and exciting.
This is one of the best sequels I have seen in a long time. Normally sequels fall into the trap where they look awesome but fail to entertain and give off the excitement the trailer portrays. This one is successful on every level. It is pulled off so well, I think it is even better than the first "Sherlock Holmes."
Downey does a fantastic job as Holmes. He never changes his personality from the first movie, and we still love him. Law also does an amazing job as Watson. I liked Watson in the first movie, and just like Holmes he is the same except now he is married. I love the chemistry between Holmes and Watson.
Jared Harris is incredible as Moriarty. I think he pulls off the smart psychopath extremely well. He is devious and sinister on the inside but incredibly sophisticated on the outside. The showdowns between Holmes and Moriarty are awesome and incredibly well done.
The action is bigger, better and more exciting than the first movie. It is fast-paced and some of the best action I have seen in a movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat. There is fantastic special effects and cinematography that is so incredible that it enhances the mood and the excitement of the movie.
This is easily the best sequel of the year, and I recommend anyone who has seen the first "Sherlock Holmes" to see this movie. It will not disappoint. I loved every second of this movie and wouldn't mind spending another $10 to see it again.
