Letterset, a popular Buffalo band, called it quits Saturday night.
After five years of performing and creating music together, the band, which had become one of the area's hottest bands, played its final show at Xtreme Wheels.
The band, which includes frontman Cameron Powell, bassist Ricky Needham, lead guitarist John Anstett and drummer Josiah LeRoy, went out in style with support from the very impressive up-and-coming band Rescue Dawn, which definitely got the crowd excited for Letterset.
Holding back tears, Letterset took the stage for one last time. The band played for more than an hour, presenting all the songs they created together.
When asked which show was their favorite, each band member gave the same response: May 7, 2009, at the Town Ballroom with All Time Low and Hey Monday.
Bassist Ricky Needham said playing there "was a dream come true." He said playing in front of more than 1,000 people, who reacted well to their music, felt like being a superstar band.
The band members also said that their favorite part of being in the band was playing with their best friends.
Powell said that "seeing people get excited about the music and quote the lyrics I wrote" was an additional thrill.
During its five years of success, Letterset's fan base continued to grow exponentially with each show it played, causing more and more people to appreciate the lyrics that Powell had put so much time into.
The band members said it was sad to say goodbye to the hundreds of fans that had come out to see them one last time Saturday night. However, they said that seeing the faces of all their friends and fans was truly a blessing.
Their final set included all the songs their fans have come to know and love.
"You've inspired me to take what I love to do to a new level," said LeRoy to everyone that has supported the band. "Never did I imagine that this would establish such a following. I am so humbled and honored to have played in front of you and I hope to do so again one day."
Whether these musicians continue on to new endeavors, they have made their mark on the Buffalo music scene.
As Letterset disbands, so too does a major influence in the lives of many Western New Yorkers. Their music and sound will live in every person they have touched.
