Who?: Buffalo native now living in California. Purveyor of gorgeously ornate, dreamy pop with folk roots.
What?: "Patterns" is Clark's new album, following rapidly on the heels of last year's stellar release, "Connect the Dots." That album came out on the revered Vanguard label, but for "Patterns" -- simultaneously Clark's most sophisticated and playful collection -- the singer and songwriter is back on the "indie" train, with no label affiliations.
Why?: Clark is the genuine article, a deeply talented songwriter and record maker with a gorgeous voice. In producer Matt Appleton, Clark has found a sympathetic colleague -- "Patterns" is beautifully produced, and is crammed full of deft, subtle harmonic and sonic touches. Smart, sexy, and sometimes, simply sublime.
