Park School sophomore Kristen Klementowski spent months researching the definitions, etiquette and history of disability in pursuit of the Girl Scout Silver Award. Her research project culminated in presentations of her findings to fellow students, other Girl Scouts and members of the community.

A Girl Scout from another troop who has Down syndrome inspired Kristen's research. After noticing other girls speaking slowly and awkwardly to their fellow scout, Kristen set out to find the the right way to treat disabled people with dignity and respect. In her speeches, Kristen offered tips on "disability etiquette."

"I don't actually think there is a finishing point because everything changes," Kristen said in a school press release. "As new research comes out about disabilities, the project will have to change and as disability etiquette improves, we will have to change as well."
