YOUTH GRANTS

Youth Service America and the Sodexo Foundation will be awarding $500 grants to raise awareness of childhood hunger and reduce it. The grants will help support highly visible community service or service-learning projects that engage at least 20 young people (ages 5-25). Events must occur during Hunger and Homelessness Week -- Nov. 14-20. Applications are open until Sept. 16 and can be found at www.ysa.org/grants.

PHOTO CONTEST

The Young Adult Library Services Association is holding a photo contest to celebrate Teen Read Week Oct. 16-22. The contest is open to teens ages 13-18 with permission from a parent or guardian. Five finalists will win gift bags from Penguin Books, with the winner receiving an e-reader preloaded with teen titles. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31. WALK WITH GHOSTS
