AUTHOR VISIT

Here's your chance to meet author-illustrator Chris Van Allsburg, when he visits the area as part of a book tour promoting "Queen of the Falls," his new book about Annie Edson Taylor, the 63-year-old schoolteacher who rode a barrel over Niagara Falls in 1901. Van Allsburg will discuss the book -- and sign autographs -- in a free program at 2 p.m. June 4 in the Rapids Theatre, 1711 Main St., Niagara Falls. He will also sign books from 1 to 3 p.m. June 5 at Wegmans, 3135 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.

SHAKESPEARE WINNER

Kelsey Bennett of Buffalo, a student at Kenmore West High School, placed as a semifinalist in the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition. Kelsey was one of 57 regional winners nationwide who competed in New York City.
