PIANISTS HONORED

Two area piano students have been invited to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Mark Chee, 16, of Amherst, a senior at Williamsville East High School, has been awarded the Tri-State Award for Grade 10 Piano.

Jarod Yap, 11, of Clarence, will receive the Tri-State Certificate of Excellence for Grade 8 Piano and Grade 4 Violin.

These awards are given to the students in the Northeast who obtain the highest marks and complete all the necessary instrument, theory and music history requirements for each grade level.

Both boys will perform at the awards ceremony next month in Carnegie Hall.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Friends of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Volunteers and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society have teamed up to offer Young Musicians Scholarships worth $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, as well as Silverman String Scholarships for $1,500. The scholarships are available to high school seniors in Erie and Niagara counties who plan to major in music next fall. Application deadline is Tuesday. RED CARPET EVENT

The Lancaster High School Academy of Finance, together with the Parent Advisory Board, will present an Academy Awards Night at 6:30 tonight in the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave., Lancaster. The red carpet event will honor business internship providers/mentors, as well as students. The Lancaster High School Academy of Finance is part of the National Academy Foundation, which connects high school students with the world of financial services. The curriculum mandates that students complete two internship experiences and promotes real-world learning experiences.
