PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST
The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site will hold a public speaking contest for high school students in March. The contest commemorates the life and legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt. Details and registration forms are available at www.trsite.org. Registration deadline is Feb. 4.

The Community Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for full-time undergraduate students enrolled in a nonprofit, U.S. Department of Education accredited college. Pell-eligible applicants and students attending college in Western New York will be given preference. Applications are available online at www.cfgb.org and can be submitted until March 1.
The Carter G. Woodson Essay Contest is open to all students in grades four through 12. Essays (printed or typed) must be between 200 and 500 words on the topic: A Salute to African-American Soldiers in Western New York. The essay must list the area of service the soldier was in, years served, places stationed and any interesting story about the soldier's years of service. Other topics may include an important monument or plaque dedicated to African-American soldiers. Interviews are acceptable and photos welcome. Deadline is Feb. 9. Send entries to Carter G. Artpark will offer its Musical Theater Apprenticeship Program for high school students ages 16 and up to participate in Artpark's August production of "Fame -- The Musical." Auditions will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 at a location to be determined. Applicants should prepare 32 bars of two songs and be prepared to dance. Bring sheet music, application and photo.
