The 13th annual Kids Escaping Drugs SkiScape will be held Jan. 2 at HoliMont Ski Resort in Ellicottville. A minimum donation of $60 includes an all-day lift ticket, breakfast, lunch and a T-shirt. Pianist William Paul Freeman will present "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" with guests Jilene VanOpdorp and Joel Decker at 7:30 p.m. Monday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville. William, Jilene and Joel are 2010 graduates of Williamsville South High School and are all continuing their music studies in college.

Students between eighth and 12th grades who live within 60 miles of Buffalo are invited to submit a one-act play for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship in the Write to Be Heard contest. Friends of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Volunteers and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society have teamed up to offer Young Musicians Scholarships worth $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, as well as Silverman String Scholarships for $1,500. The scholarships are available to high school seniors in Erie and Niagara counties who plan to major in music next fall. Application deadline is Feb. 1.
