The unveiling of Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities, an initiative focused on improving opportunities for physical activity and access to affordable healthy foods for those living in Buffalo, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Zebro Conference Center in Roswell Park's Center for Genetics and Pharmacology, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Virginia Street. Artwork and photography by youth participants will be on view.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse along with MusiCares and the Grammy Foundation are holding the Teen Substance Abuse Awareness through Music Contest. Young musicians, ages 14 to 18, are invited to compose an original song and/or music video that explores, encourages and celebrates a healthy lifestyle or accurately depicts a story about drug abuse. The 27th annual Lewiston Harvest Festival and Craft Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday along Center Street in the Village of Lewiston. Performances include the Brothers of Invention, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Frontier House; Hot Country Line Dancers at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the Key Bank parking lot; Colt 45 Country Band, 1:30 tp 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Frontier House; and Mike Smiarowski will perform throughout both days at Hennepin Park Gazebo.
A Fairy Tale Tea will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alden Christian Theatre Society, 1470 Church St., Alden. Reservations for the mother-daughter costume event are required by 10 a.m. Saturday. Costumes are not required. Tickets are $12/$10 for children 10 and under. Call 937-7770.
