On Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at 10:20 p.m., Continental flight 3407, en route from Newark, N.J., spun from the sky and crashed into a home as it made its approach to Buffalo Niagara International Airport. All 49 people on board the plane were killed, as was one man in the house in Clarence Center. It was the worst aviation accident in Western New York history.

WASHINGTON — The federal agency investigating the Feb. 12 crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 in Clarence Center plans to finish its probe by the first anniversary of the crash and has shifted resources away from other accident investigations to get the job done.

WASHINGTON — Federal Aviation Administrator Randy Babbitt offered a lukewarm reaction Tuesday to the idea of Congress requiring all new commercial pilots to have 1,500 hours of flight experience, a key goal the families of the victims of Continental Connection Flight 3407 have been pushing.

WASHINGTON — Two weeks after a federal safety official said at a public hearing that "a recipe for an accident" led to the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 and the loss of 50 lives, the parent of the regional airline that operated that doomed flight did something it had never done before.

WASHINGTON — As their plane approached Buffalo on Feb. 12, the pilot of Continental Connection Flight 3407 said he would rather be flying into Houston and noted his own lack of experience minutes before the plane crashed in Clarence on Feb. 12, and the co-pilot complained of her inexperience in icing conditions.
