What: Authors & Artists 2009, an evening of food and entertainment to showcase and benefit the Carnegie Art Center, in North Tonawanda Why: Food, wine and a silent auction of collectible books and one-of-a-kind bookmarks designed by more than 50 artists for the event. What else: Proceeds benefit the programs of the Carnegie Art Center, including classes for children and adults, art exhibits and professional workshops. What: Halloween Spooktacular at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum Why: Family party will include games, crafts, treats, rides and entertainment by In Jest. What else: See the museum’s wood-carvers work their magic on pumpkins, which will be raffled off at the end of the event. Kids go home with a goodie bag; adults enjoy cider and doughnuts. What: Marble Orchard Ghost Walks Why: Offbeat theatrical guides lead historically based walks through the Village of Lewiston and into the village cemetery, stopping to commune with those who have made the “Marble Orchard” their final resting place. What else: The 90-minute walks include tales of the ghastly and the ghostly, graveyard etiquette and tombstone symbols. Info: Meet at the Lewiston Courtyard, 476 Center St. at 7 p. m. every Saturday through Oct. 31. Bring a flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes.
