Owens turns on the jets for spectacular catch
Terrell Owens made the eye-popping play of the first two weeks of Buffalo Bills spring practice Friday.
The veteran receiver ran a streak down the right sideline in a seven-on-seven drill against second-year cornerback Reggie Corner. The pass from quarterback Trent Edwards looked like it was going to be about 15 yards overthrown, and Corner was side-by-side with Owens about 35 yards downfield. Then Owens turned on his speed and ran under the ball to make a seemingly effortless grab four or five strides past Corner. Even for an inconsequential spring practice, it was an impressive play.
“Oh my God, I was definitely surprised,“ Corner said. “I actually geared down like it was an overthrow but as you could see he put it in third gear. It was like, wow, he caught me off guard a little bit. He can move.”

Coach Dick Jauron on the first two weeks of spring practice:
“The week was good for us. Obviously the communication on both sides of the ball and on special teams improved, particularly for the younger players, which is a big part of what this is about to incorporate them into our team and our terminology and our schemes. It went pretty well.
“It’s an interesting time of year. A lot of work gets done, it’s not mandatory and we have great participation from our squad. We have great work going on off the field, too, both in the classrooms and in the strength and conditioning area and in our nutrition area, so it’s very valuable for us.
“It’s so, so different from when I played the game, so significantly different here. We’re so far ahead of where we were. Of course in those days training camp was unbelievably long. . . . But it’s much better today than it was then.”

Attendance has been virtually 100 percent the past two weeks, but numerous players took Friday off, including Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay, Langston Walker, Roscoe Parrish, Lee Evans and Dominic Rhodes. . . . Cornerback Leodis McKelvin sat out this week due to a hand and finger injury. McKelvin declined to say how it happened other than it was not a football injury. He said he should be back on the field soon.
