Sanborn man charged in string of burglaries

NIAGARA FALLS—A Sanborn man was held without bail after being arraigned Wednesday in City Court on burglary charges tied to several De- Veaux break-ins.

Jacques R. Meness, 38, of Chew Road, was charged with five counts of burglary, two counts of grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny and two counts of criminal mischief in the burglaries, from Oct. 23 to Nov. 9, on Lewiston Road, Whirlpool Street, Clifton Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, police said. He was remanded to Niagara County Jail, and a return court date was set for Monday.

Meness was charged initially Nov. 9 with burglary and grand larceny after he was caught in the 2600 block of Whirlpool Street breaking into a home and a business in the 2600 block of Main Street. Police said stolen items included fishing gear, tools, a snowblower, generator, compressor, gas grill and a bicycle. They said some of the items have been recovered and others are still being sought.
