Police hunt 3 gunmen who robbed HSBC

Story tools:

Cheektowaga and Buffalo police were searching for three men, all armed with handguns, who robbed the HSBC Bank branch on Union Road Friday morning before fleeing in what appeared to be a red taxi.

The taxi was believed headed onto the westbound lanes of the Kensington Expressway, toward the city.

Cheektowaga police called Buffalo police to assist in attempting to find the robbers. Initial reports indicated that the cab may have been part of the Liberty Cab fleet.

A worker at Liberty Cab said the company was notified of that possibility, but that no cabs had been dispatched to the Union Road bank. Police now believe that the thieves fled in a vehicle that they drove to the scene.

The robbery occurred at about 9:10 a. m. at the HSBC branch on Union Road, just south of the Kensington Expressway.
