Police surround home of gunman in Blasdell

Story tools:

A Hamburg police SWAT team late Wednesday surrounded a home on Lake Avenue in Blasdell, where a gunman was holed up.

Residents living near the scene were evacuated, and Lake Avenue was closed to traffic between Silver Street and South Park Avenue.

“It started about 5:30 p. m.,” said Donna Bloomquist, the manager of Rocko’s Tacos, across the street from the house containing the gunman. “[Police] came in and told us to close about 6:45 p. m.”

A woman and her 12-year-old daughter, who reportedly live with the gunman, left the house earlier and were with police, said authorities, who added that the standoff may have been triggered by an abuse complaint.
