Driver charged with DWI after passer-by calls police
SILVER CREEK—A motorist who spotted a vehicle in a ditch on Hanover Road early Saturday stopped to help, but ended up calling 911 when he suspected that the driver, Dennis J. Snyder, had been driving drunk.
After he refused to take a sobriety test, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies checked his record and found a previous conviction for an alcohol-related offense and a suspended driver’s license.
Snyder, 24, of North Main Street, Cattaraugus, was charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation and refusing to submit to the sobriety test. He was arraigned in Hanover Town Court and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail after failing to post bail.
