Prosecutor’s illness stalls sexual assault trial

Story tools:

LOCKPORT—The flu bug has caused an interruption in a Niagara County Court sexual assault trial in which Mark K. Goupil faces a possible life prison sentence if convicted.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth R. Donatello became too ill to continue after one day of testimony Tuesday. After an off day, Judge Matthew

J. Murphy III ruled Thursday that the trial will resume Monday. The trial is expected to last at least until Thursday.

Goupil, 39, of 61st Street, Niagara Falls, is charged with predatory sexual assault against a child. He is accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl several times in a Town of Niagara home between May 2008 and February of this year.
