Utility pole sheared off in Lockport; service not cut

Story tools:

LOCKPORT—Niagara County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of downed wires just before 8 a. m. Sunday in the 4000 block of Lake Avenue, where a telephone pole was found sheared off at ground level.

Deputies said that even though the pole was broken and on the ground, they found most of the wires were still attached and none appeared to be out of service.

Various car parts were found on the ground, and tire tracks had been left on the grass and into the parking lot of the former Dee Jay’s bar, according to deputies, but no accident reports had been made in the past 24 hours.

New York State Electric&Gas was called to repair the pole. Damage was listed at $3,000.
