Amherst police arrest 4 in tennis club burglary
Four people were arrested Monday by Amherst police in connection with the burglary of the Miller Tennis Club on Sheridan Drive in Amherst.
Charged with two counts of burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property were: Kyle Crawford, 16; Thomas Root, 20; and Nicholas Scheppery, 21, all of Amherst; and Bryan Szarletta, 20, of Cheektowaga.
Their arrests occurred after some heady police work by Officer Patrick Mayer, who stopped the vehicle the four were riding in for a traffic violation just before 4 a. m. on Transit Road.
Later in his shift, Mayer came upon the same vehicle and occupants at a vacant Main Street property and found some computer equipment lying on the ground next to it.
Two of the suspects were apprehended. Two others fled but were later arrested with the help of K-9 Officer Bruce Mann. It was later determined the four had also allegedly burglarized the Miller Tennis Club.
