Man accused of stabbing estranged wife, her aunt
Lamont Hines was indicted Monday on attempted murder and other charges for allegedly stabbing his estranged wife and her aunt during a Bennett Village Terrace break-in last month.
Hines, also known as Lamont Hansworth, 39, of Essex Street, was ordered to remain jailed without bail following his arraignment before Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk.
Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said Hines was indicted on two counts each of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and burglary, and one count of first-degree criminal contempt.
Sedita and Kristin A. St. Mary, chief of his Domestic Violence Bureau, said Hines is accused of repeatedly stabbing his estranged wife, Caren Houston, 25, and her aunt, Gina Houston, 41, on Oct. 12 during the Bennett Village Terrace incident, and of violating a court order to stay away from her.
Hines faces a prison term of up to 50 years if convicted as charged.
