Ex-executive pleads guilty in the theft of $60,000

Story tools:

Robert W. Burchett, former chief financial officer for Buffalo’s Franklin Assets Management, pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree grand larceny for stealing $60,000 from the company before he was fired after an audit last summer.

State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski told Burchett, 48, of Silver Creek, he faces a mandatory two to four years in prison as a second felony offender when he is sentenced March 17.

John C. Doscher, chief of the Erie County district attorney’s Special Investigations Bureau, said Burchett, who was forced to sign a confession of judgment on his plea, wrote company checks to himself between last October and this July.

Six years ago, Burchett got weekends in jail and was ordered to repay money he stole from Cherry Creek Woodcrafters in South Dayton while working in management there.

He declined to comment as he left the Buffalo courtroom on his own recognizance Wednesday.

Doscher said authorities have yet to determine what Burchett did with the funds he embezzled from both of his former employers.
