Man sentenced for attempt to sell Ecstasy pills

Story tools:

A man from Oshweken, Ont., was sentenced to 11 years and three months in federal prison Wednesday for importing 60,000 Ecstasy pills into the United States in 2006.

David R. Longboat, 58, was arrested by the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents Aug. 26, 2006, after he delivered 60,000 pills containing Ecstasy and methamphetamine to a Niagara Falls fast-food restaurant.

He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute drugs and was sentenced by U. S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

Two women who also took pleas in the case are awaiting sentencing, and a third woman who was charged died last year in a car crash in Toronto, authorities said.

According to Assistant U. S. Attorney Thomas S. Duszkiewicz, while Longboat was jailed after his arrest, he also tried to arrange the sale of another 20,000 Ecstasy pills, which were seized by the DEA in October 2006.

The street-sale value of the 80,000 pills was estimated by police at $2 million in American funds.
