Loot tossed from car leads to two arrests

Story tools:

NIAGARA FALLS—Two people were arrested early Saturday after police interrupted a car break-in in the 2700 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

Henri J. Alfiere, 26, of LaSalle Avenue, and Katelyn S. Dietz, 16, of Welch Avenue, are charged with third-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Officers arriving at the scene about 3 a. m. observed a car leaving the area, and items were being jettisoned through the windows. Police said they recovered two cell phones, several compact discs and a car stereo unit— items stolen from at least three nearby vehicles. A cinder block was used to shatter the window of one of the vehicles, police said.

Police noted a gold chain stolen from one of the vehicles was not found. Alfiere was charged later with felony criminal mischief after he damaged plumbing in a jail cell of the city’s Municipal Building, police added.
