Hate crime, mutilation of dolls are investigated

Story tools:

WILSON—Niagara County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a possible hate crime and a disturbing display.

A 41-year-old Ransomville woman told deputies that her car was vandalized early Saturday in the 400 block of Main Street. Someone using orange paint spray-painted vulgarities all over of the 2001 Pontiac, causing an estimated $2,000 damage. Deputies said the victim is gay.

In Olcott, a worker for the Niagara County Parks Department discovered five mutilated dolls hanging from a tree in Krull Park Friday afternoon. The dolls—four Barbies and one baby doll—had red paint on them, deputies said.

The incident occurred near the Lions Club Pavilion of the Main Street park.
