Police say 2 are suspects in rash of generator thefts
Amherst police are investigating whether two men suspected of trying to steal a generator from a garage are responsible for recent thefts of generators from homes in the town and Clarence.
Seth Hanes, 27, of North French Road, Amherst, and Matthew Guzenski, 26, of Cottonwood Drive, Amherst, are charged each with burglary and attempted petit larceny.
Police say a woman called police at 5:35 p. m. Thursday to report that she saw a man walk into the garage of her Getzville Road home and walk out with her generator. When confronted, the man claimed he was picking up a generator from a friend’s home and he must be at the wrong house, said Amherst Police Lt. Ronald Farszmil.
The man then entered a waiting vehicle that drove off, Farszmil said. Officer Tracy Martin stopped the vehicle on nearby Woodbury Drive after the driver went through a stop sign, police said.
