Buffalo man injured in shooting accident

Story tools:

PORTER—A retired sergeant with the state Department of Corrections was injured at the National Guard’s Balmer Road firing range Wednesday when he accidentally shot himself with a pistol.

Injuries to Edward F. Christian, 61, of Schreck Avenue, Buffalo, did not appear to be serious, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said. Christian was transported to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston, where he was treated, then released, deputies said. Deputies said Christian shot himself in the thigh when he attempted to holster the weapon when the safety was not on.
