Bicyclist, 11, recovering after being hit by car

Story tools:

ROYALTON—The condition of an 11-year-old boy who was injured after being hit by a car Tuesday has been upgraded from critical to stable, State Police spokeswoman Rebecca Gibbons said Wednesday.

Gibbons said the Middleport boy, whose name will not be released, was hit at Cottage and Chestnut Ridge roads when he rode his bike into the path of a car driven by Karita Cumberland, 19, of Gasport, headed west on Chestnut Ridge.

Cumberland, police said, was unable to avoid the boy and was not charged.

The victim was not wearing a helmet.
