Franklinville teens charged in grocery store burglary

Story tools:

FRANKLINVILLE—Two young Franklinville men have been charged with the June 12 burglary of the Shurfine store on South Main Street.

Jeremiah Phinney, 19, of Third Avenue, and Carl Enderby, 18, of Rushford Road, face felony charges of third-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny.

They were freed Monday from Cattaraugus County Jail and are scheduled to return to Franklinville Town Court on Monday.

The two were arrested last Thursday nd held on $5,000 bail following a two-week investigation by the Franklinville village police and Cattaraugus County sheriff’s investigators. It was later determined they did not pose a flight risk and they were released.

Franklinville Police Chief Tony Wolfer said police believe the two entered the store while it was still open on Friday night, and later made off with $31,644.38 in cash and other merchandise. The theft was discovered when the store was opened Saturday morning.

Wolfer said the suspects had worked at the store previously, but are currently unemployed and “spending money like crazy.” About $20,000 in cash and property were recovered, he added.
