Marijuana found in tire leads to couple’s arrest
NIAGARA FALLS—A Niagara Falls, Ont., couple was arrested Sunday after they allegedly tried to enter the United States at the Rainbow Bridge with a quantity of marijuana stuffed into a spare tire, U. S. Customs and Border Protection officials report.
A 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman told officers they were en route to visit a relative on Grand Island. Additional questioning aroused suspicion, officials said, and the couple’s vehicle was sent for additional inspection by a narcotics detector dog and other technology.
Customs officials said they cut open a spare tire and found five vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana. The pair was arrested and turned over to the Niagara Falls Police.
